Download SpeakVeil for Mac.

One disk image. Drag the app to Applications, allow two permissions, and dictate. Speech recognition runs on your Mac from the first word.

  • macOS 15 or later
  • Apple silicon (M1 or newer)
  • Free plan, no account

First launch

  1. Open the disk image

Double-click SpeakVeil.dmg in your Downloads folder, then drag SpeakVeil onto the Applications folder in the window that opens.

  2. Open it from Applications

Start SpeakVeil from your Applications folder, not from the disk image. The first time, macOS asks you to confirm that you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. You can then eject the disk image.

  3. Allow the microphone and Accessibility

The app asks for two permissions. The microphone lets it hear you. Accessibility lets your shortcut work in every app and paste the text at your cursor. You can turn either off later in System Settings, Privacy & Security.

  4. Let the speech model download once

The speech model is about 470 MB and stays on your Mac. Smart Cleanup data (about 1.4 GB) follows in the background; dictation works before it finishes. After setup, speech processing works offline. Mac Pro needs a successful licence check within its seven-day grace period; the privacy policy explains the free-plan fallback.

  5. Press your shortcut and talk

Click into any text field, press the shortcut, speak, and press it again. Your words land at the cursor. Choose your own shortcut in Settings: a key combination, or a modifier key on its own, like Option. The free plan covers 2,500 words and 1 meeting a month; Pro starts with 2 weeks free, no card.

System requirements

macOS
macOS 15 Sequoia or later
Processor
Apple silicon: M1 or newer. Intel Macs are not supported.
Disk space
About 2 GB for the speech and Smart Cleanup models. The optional extra-languages pack needs about 3.9 GB more.
Internet
Only to download the models, check a Pro licence and look for updates. Dictation itself runs offline.
Permissions
Microphone and Accessibility. Meeting Notes also asks to record the call's audio when you first use it.

Updates

The Mac app checks speakveil.ai for a signed update once a day and asks before it installs anything. You can turn the check off in Settings, General.

On iPhone

The iPhone app is coming soon. It will have its own keyboard for dictating in any app. You will buy its plans inside the app, through the App Store, with no account. They are separate from the Mac plan, and a Mac licence will not unlock it.
